This module aims to provide students with an understanding of the design patterns and data structures that are in use in moden software packages. To allow the students to be able to perform critical analyses of complex design tasks and to decompose them into manageable and maintainable parts. The role and use of generic programming through templates will be introduced. Furthermore, the emergence of parallel programming techniques will be discussed and practical design choices and implementions analysed.
