The aim of this module is to develop awareness of and ability to solve problems in the field of electronic design and construction. Students will develop a range of practical and experimental skills, will develop an open ended approach to electronic circuit design, will gain awareness of a number of non-technical aspects (e.g. cost-issues, health and safety) and will develop important communication skills, as well as improve team work and resource management ability.

LO1 - Apply fundamental circuit design theory to practical design of amplifiers and filters. |

LO2 - Apply good-practice build and test methodologies to the development of analogue electronic circuits, in respect of health and safety guidelines. |

LO3 - Discuss technology selection options in relation to cost and manufacturing issues, making a distinction between large markets and niche applications. |

LO4 - Select and apply appropriate methodologies and tools when carrying out specific tasks to solve set problems (e.g. frequency response characterisation of sub-system or components). |

LO5 - Appreciate both nominal and abnormal working conditions of an amplifier and implications either. |

LO6 - Carry out independent research and work as part of a team. |

LO7 - Collect, analyse, critically evaluate experimental data and present them effectively with the use of an appropriate technical communication register. |

LO8 - Be confident in the use of standard laboratory equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, testers, signal generator, ...) and dedicated software packages (e.g. PSpice, Excel, Matlab, ...) |

LO9 - Hold a sound technical discussion about analogue audio amplification and specific design choices, in consideration of technical, cost and manufacturing issues. |
