Module - MATS2001 - Materials in Design
The aim of this module is to introduce students to methodologies for materials selection and process selection for design improvement, with reference to the constraints imposed by manufacturability and usage of materials in real engineering situations.

LO1 - Understand strategies for materials and process selection following appraisal of engineering context (Knowledge, comprehension). Consideration will be given to material functional properties, process-structure-property interrelationships. |

LO2 - Apply these strategies to a range of engineering scenarios (Comprehension, application). Cambridge Engineering Selector (CES) database software will be used to evaluate materials/methods of manufacture for product or assembly. |
|

|
LO3 - Translate a problem through identification of associated function, constraint, objective and free-variables, with reference to engineering context (comprehension, application, analysis). |
|

LO4 - Apply cost models for the appraisal of candidate manufacturing processes. (Comprehension and application). |

LO5 - Demonstrate understanding of the general working principles of various manufacturing processes and the significant parameters associated with their usage. (Comprehension and application). |
