The aims of the module are to develop knowledge, understanding and practical skills in intelligent tooling, work holding and fixturing systems for manufacture. It covers design skills, fixturing solutions, fixturing automation and analysis of intelligent fixturing systems. The module focuses on engineering principles, methodologies, design and use of tooling and fixturing as an integral part of the manufacturing productions systems. The tooling and fixturing topic will be treated as part of the production system to enable the understanding of particular design solutions; particular importance will be paid to related the part positioning accuracy vs. process requirements. Automation aspects of the fixtures to support reduced human intervention will be taken into consideration.

LO1 -Develop knowledge, understanding and application of the design of intelligent tooling, work holding and fixturing systems.Knowledge on calculation of errors in positioning, holding of parts in particular positions and design methodologies for fixtures. |
