To introduce students the fundamental concepts of automated manufacture, the role of automation in manufacturing, and its advantages and limitations. Also to provide the students with an awareness of key automation technologies in manufacturing and evaluation methods to assess their suitability and key performance characteristics within different manufacturing context.
