Target Students:

Strong basic Immunology knowledge (e.g. Immunity and Immune system module or equivalent)

Summary Of Content:

A series of lectures is provided to give students an in-depth understanding of the human IgE network and the mechanisms of tissue damage in allergic inflammation. Consideration is given to the use of modern molecular biology techniques in the development of strategies for immunological intervention.

A series of lectures is provided to give students an in-depth understanding of the allergic cascade and the role of different immune cells in initiation and maintenance of allergic responses. In addition, there is also focus on the early events at the interface of allergens and immune cells, the molecular nature of these interactions and how they lead to allergic sensitisation. Also consideration is given on how it would be possible to leverage on the basic knowledge to development strategies for immunological intervention.
