LO1 - To comprehend and explain, using suitable examples, the underlying concepts behind the following aspects of spinal mechanics:Structure and function of the osteo-ligamentous spine, spinal pathologies, fusion devices, dynamic stabilisation devices, total disc replacement. |

LO2 - To be able to apply the knowledge gained in each of the subject areas to an engineered device e.g. a dynamic stabilisation implant. |

LO3 - To be able to demonstrate an awareness of developing technologies in the areas of fusion, dynamic stabilisation and total disc replacement devices. |

LO4 - To understand the design considerations necessary for developing spinal implants. |

LO5 - To use technical and research literature effectively to fulfil the learning objectives of the module. |
