LO1 - To comprehend and explain, using suitable examples, the underlying concepts behind the following aspects of biomechanics:mechanical properties of hard tissues, mechanical properties of soft tissues, design considerations for orthopaedic devices, design consideration for cardiovascular devices, impact biomechanics. |

LO2 - To be able to apply the knowledge gained in each of the subject areas to an engineering application e.g. a method for quantifying a mechanical property or the design of an engineered device such as an orthopaedic implant. |

LO3 - To be able to demonstrate an awareness of developing technologies in the areas of orthopaedic implants, engineered cardiovascular devices and automotive safety systems. |

LO4 - To understand the design considerations for orthopaedic and cardiovascular prostheses and restraint systems. |
