This module aims to give students an understanding of the hardware and software used in interfacing computers to mechanical systems, and to impart a working knowledge of the LabView graphical programming system. More specifically, it aims to give an understanding of the issues involved in motion control and in real-time programming.

LO1 - Understand and apply the latching and buffering hardware and control software used for linking computers to electromechanical systems via parallel digital interfaces. |

LO2 - Analyse and describe the issues of real-time programming of complex systems. |

LO3 - Understand and select the hardware and methods used for data conversion and transmission in mechatronic systems. |

LO4 - Control the electronic and electromechanical hardware (sensors, transducers, actuators and motion control hardware) involved in interfacing electromechanical systems to computers. |

LO5 - Attain a reasonable proficiency in using LabView in order to create a solution to an instrumentation or mechatronic problem. |
