At its first step the module aims to lead the students through gradual understanding of measurement principles, measurement associated uncertainties, types of sensory solutions/chains. Once these aspects are presented the basis for understanding control systems are introduced, modelled and demonstrated. This fusion of information in measurement and control enables the future engineering graduates to understand existing systems and to design and develop at least outline systems in manufacturing applications. Grouped on the two parts of the module, the aims are the following: 1) Measurement: discussions on standards and methods; dynamic modelling of systems; analysis of dynamic response of measurement instruments; evaluation of uncertainties in measurements; understanding of basic principles of transducers and measurement chains. 2) Control: introduction of needs/approaches of automatic control; analysis of response of Proportional, Integral and Derivative controllers; analytical evaluation of stability of closed loop control system; experimental evaluation of stability of closed loop control systems and root locus
