This module aims to introduce the general concepts and principles of eukaryotic cell structure and function. Particular attention is given to cells and aspects of cellular function which have particular relevance to the response of the body to implanted biomaterials and medical devices. Students are expected to be able to apply the biological knowledge gained to biological responses to implants and rationale for implant design.
